Sometimes, your kid is an asshole!

I look at my 6 year old son Antonio and smile. He’s such a good boy. He works hard in school, in Italian school, during his swimming classes and on the Soccer field. At home, he has his chores and he helps me cook. I always get compliments as to how nice and well behaved he is. I am so proud that he is my son and I am so proud to be his father.

And yet... sometimes... he’s an asshole.

Guess what... sometimes... your kid... your perfect little angel... is an asshole too.

Caillou is the devil!

Ok folks. This is my first ever parenting rant (ok… first ever on a parenting blog. Those who know me know that this is a regular occurrence).

Today’s target: Caillou

In my humble opinion, Caillou is the devil of children’s television. Parents, I beg you, do not let your kids watch this show.

A poem for all parents: ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling

I am in the process of reading Bruce Buffer (UFC Octagon announcer)’s book: It’s Time! My 360-Degree View of the UFC. In this book, Mr. Buffer makes reference to a great poem for all parents. It is called ‘If’ by Rudyard Kipling. I now use this poem as added inspiration for me as a father and I’d like to share it with you. Here it is:

Against all odds: My path to being an Awesome Dad

Soccer coach, homework helper, robot builder, race track engineer & cookie baker are just some of the titles I have that, combined, make me an Awesome Dad.

BUT...

Being an Awesome Dad wasn’t always in the plans. Being a dad, period, wasn’t always in the plans for me. My life, even up until recently, has been a major roller coaster ride with many trips through the pits of hell. One of my goals as a dad is to make sure that Antonio doesn’t have to go through the same hardships that I battled through so that he can have a better life than me.  Here’s my story.

Picture this. 1994. I was thirteen years old. Laval. My parents divorced and my mom took us to live with my grandparents in Ontario. All of this on about 5 minutes notice. I didn’t have time to say bye to my friends. I didn’t even pack my own things. POOF! We were gone.  Teenage life is hard enough. Now, my dad was no longer in the picture and I was ripped away from my school, my friends & my city.

WELCOME TO AWESOME DAD’S BLOG: THE INTRO!

Hi there. Hello. Come here often? No? First time? AWESOME!

WELCOME INTO MY BRAIN!
Please keep all hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times.

My name is Giovanni. I am an Awesome Dad (I know what you are thinking... d’uh... kind of figured by the name of your website. I get it. I’m getting boring. Don’t close the page. I’m going somewhere with this. I promise!)

So. Again. I’m an Awesome Dad. I have one child. His name is Antonio. He is currently 6 years old or for those of you who still count your kid’s age in months, he is currently 77 months old! You’ll often read me referring to him as Toto (Italian nickname).
